In June 2023, High Country Youth Ballet made its new home at Blue Ridge Performing Arts Academy, located in Newland, NC. Following a long-held tradition, High Country Youth Ballet productions are performed by students who are enrolled in dance at the home studio, as well as guest actors and dancers from the community.
Founded in June 2020, it is the mission of Blue Ridge Performing Arts Academy to provide the highest level of artistic education for students in the Avery County area, to enrich their lives, and to help them reach their fullest potential as artists, leaders, and citizens. Blue Ridge Performing Arts Academy provides dance and music instruction for children ages 24 months through 12th grade. Classes includes Mommy & Me, Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Liturgical, Piano, and Voice.
In addition to the Nutcracker ballet, BRPAA offers performance opportunities for Dance Team members and students who are enrolled in Liturgical classes. The BRPAA Dance Team is by invitation only for dedicated, talented students in grades five through twelve with backgrounds in ballet, jazz, and tap. Dance Team members are true ambassadors of BRPAA. You'll see them in and around the community, performing at parades, festivals, and charity events. Liturgical dancers have performance opportunities throughout the year at churches and charity events, giving students the opportunity to minister to others through the art of movement and worship.
BRPAA follows a nine-month academic calendar, which concludes with spring music and dance recitals. For summer fun, BRPAA also offers dance camps and intensives for children and youth age 3 years through 12th grade.
